Accelerated sulfate reducing bacteria corrosion of X80 pipeline steel welded joints under organic carbon source starvation

چکیده

Abstract Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) corrosion of X80 steel welded joint under organic carbon source starvation was investigated in the paper. The results showed that number planktonic cells is much less than sessile after 720 h immersion. base metal (BM) medium with 1% largest. Starving SRB accelerated simultaneously uniform and localized joints, acceleration effect on latter higher former. In all mediums, density average depth pits BM weld zone (WZ) were larger those heat affected (HAZ). strongly selective, further enhanced selectivity.

Influence of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria on the Corrosion Behavior of High Strength Steel EQ70 under Cathodic Polarization

Certain species of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) use cathodes as electron donors for metabolism, and this electron transfer process may influence the proper protection potential choice for structures. The interaction between SRB and polarized electrodes had been the focus of numerous investigations. In this paper, the impact of cathodic protection (CP) on Desulfovibrio caledoniens metabolic a...

Corrosion Behavior of X80 Steel with Coupled Coating Defects under Alternating Current Interference in Alkaline Environment

The corrosion behavior of X80 steel in the presence of coupled coating defects was simulated and studied under the interference of alternating current (AC) in an alkaline environment. The results from electrochemical measurements showed that the electrode potential of the coating defect with the smaller exposed area was lower than that with the larger area, which indicated that the steel with t...

Marine sulfate-reducing bacteria cause serious corrosion of iron under electroconductive biogenic mineral crust

Iron (Fe(0) ) corrosion in anoxic environments (e.g. inside pipelines), a process entailing considerable economic costs, is largely influenced by microorganisms, in particular sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). The process is characterized by formation of black crusts and metal pitting. The mechanism is usually explained by the corrosiveness of formed H(2) S, and scavenge of 'cathodic' H(2) from...

An evaluation of carbon steel corrosion under stagnant seawater conditions.

Corrosion of 1020 carbon steel coupons in natural seawater over a 1-year period was more aggressive under strictly anaerobic stagnant conditions than under aerobic stagnant conditions as measured by weight loss and instantaneous corrosion rate (polarization resistance). Under oxygenated conditions, a two-tiered oxide layer of lepidocrocite/goethite formed. The inner layer was extremely tenaciou...

Crystallographic Texture of Induction-welded and Heat-treated Pipeline Steel

The Charpy energy of the sample after heat–treatment was significantly higher than the as–welded sample when the V–notches were located 1 or 3 mm away from FL. However, when the V–notch was located on FL, the improvement in toughness from the heat treatment was not so obvious with no enhancement noted for the test temperature of −40 ◦C. Under this condition, the facets of the fracture surface a...
